R/C Rules 101

A. Things you must know to enable you to race:

  • The frequency of your radio.
  • You must have three numbers on your car front windshield and both side windows. Black numbers with white outline at least 1-1/4 inches tall.
  • The type of car you are racing in order to pick the correct class to race in.
  • Type of motor you have and batteries (Novice is 6 cell stock motor).

B. Things you should know about racing:

  • Never yell from drivers stand (i.e. hey stupid, hey corner).
  • Never turn your radio on in the pits.
  • Do not turn your radio off with your car still on.
  • Never turn your car on with your radio off.
  • Never hit anyone from the rear (it's your fault).
  • If you cause a wreck, don't just take off, let the person you hit take the lead back.
  • If you jump the course, you must stop and let the person behind you pass before you start again.
  • Once you have been lapped, DO NOT race with the leaders, if you take out the leader after you have been lapped, you will be asked to pull off and let him go by.
  • If you car breaks do not leave the stand. Have your pit crew do repairs (on some tracks).
  • Changing of batteries is not allowed. You must re-enter the track only when clear and at the same place you left the track.
  • Do not leave the stand for any reason.
  • Do not walk or run across the track except when cornering or picking up your car.
  • Most tracks run 3 qualifying heats.
  • Most use only single fastest qualifying heat.
  • Some use points system.
  • Heats are 5 minutes long and finish your lap.
  • Novice is 5 minutes and finish your lap.
  • Mains are 5 minutes and finish your lap.
  • Novice is 5 minutes and finish your lap.
  • Pre-Stage: Have your car ready to go 2 minutes prior to your race. Put transponder in car. Have your body on and battery in your car. When the race before you has pulled their cars, place yours on the track and drive to the start line.
  • Post-Stage: After you finish racing, go to your car, turn your car and radio off. Bring your car and transmitter to the post-stage area then immediately go back out to the track to corner marshall. Turn in transponder. There will be only 2 minutes in between heats.
  • Results: Results will be posted shortly after you are done racing.
  • Do not argue with the computer (it is right).
  • Do not talk to the Race Director while he/she is running the races.
  • Transponders: Transponders are the little 1 inch square red unit placed below your front windshield in the ¼ inch hole you make in the body. Some cars have other places to mount the transponder. The transponder number matches your car number. The color of the transponder is indicated by the color on the set-up sheet. Transponders are to be returned after the race and placed back in the charger.

C. Things you should know about corner marshalling:

  • Corner marshal immediately after your race.
  • Cars running on track have right-of-way.
  • Never jump in the air.
  • Never flip or throw the cars.
  • Place cars in the direction of traffic.
  • Don't touch car if wheels are still moving.
  • Watch your corner not the race.
  • In a pile up, first car that crashed should be the first car turned over.
  • Corner marshal's DO NOT fix cars. If a car stops in your area, go over and drop it once, if it goes, let it, if it doesn't, pull it off and set it in a safe place on the side of the track and continue corner marshalling.

D. Things to check before each race:

  • Pinion gear mesh.
  • Wheel nuts are tight.
  • Check for any broken parts.
  • Make sure you have a charged battery.

E. Things to do when you are done racing for the day:

  • Pack all your stuff.
  • Clean up the area around you.
  • Thank the track crew for a great time.
  • Tell everyone how much fun you had.
